Stadium Review
- "Super" Chargers
San Diego Chargers Stadium
my san diego adventure began on cresent mesa boulevard in a little sports bar called the bullpen.  my hometown buffalo sabres were locking horns with the ottawa senators in game four of the eastern conference finals.  the sabres were down three games to none and facing elimination against a high powered senators team that appeared unbeatable.  mid way through the first period, i met two senators fans, palmir and martin.  hailing from the great white north, both played hockey growing up like we play little league baseball in the states and were anxious to celebrate a sweep of the sabers and ottawa’s first stanley cup birth.  fortunately for me, victory shined on the sabres bench and i celebrated a thrilling victory as the sabers lived to fight another day.  but palmir, martin, and myself agreed to catch a san diego charger game sometime next season.

the next day i visited qualcomm stadium, home of the afc west champion, san diego “super” chargers.  unfortunately they no longer offer guided stadium tours … a mandate I strongly recommend they reconsider.  there appear to be lots of changes in sd this offseason as well.  along with ushering in the norv turner era in san diego, the chargers are getting new uniforms and the lightning bolt logo has added a powder blue accent to its border.  i have to say that i am a huge proponent of the power blue throwback uniforms … in fact, i’ll say it here and now, going full tilt to the powder blue is a change i could fully support.  too bad it’s not going to happen.  the other obscene travesty i was made aware of at the stadium is the fact that the san diego chargers organization has decided to replace the san diego super chargers song that is played after each score.  fans of the chargers, be aware that the san diego “super” chargers will be super no more.  the familiar disco themed melody accompanied by a mixed vocal hook singing “san diego super chargers”, has been replaced by a rap song for the 2007 season.  for this, the organization should be drawn and quartered.  what are they planning to do next?  replace the cannon with an ak-47 spraying bullets skyward?   pimp juice and gold-plated grills as handouts on gameday?  honestly, what happened to tradition?  the san diego super chargers song is currently still posted on their website, get your fill now, for soon it will be gone ...

Qualcomm Stadium Tours

Although owned by the city of San Diego, Qualcomm stadium no longer offers guided tours.  A policy that I feel should be reconsidered.  I think lots of NFL fans throughout the league would be very interested in taking a tour of Qualcomm Stadium.
